it isn’t easy to have a dialogue with Trump supporters; they have been schooled in creating chaos, grievance, disrespect, and personal attack. We should be able to express ideas about policies in a nonthreatening way, and we should be able to respect differing points of view, but that isn’t the example set by the former president. Rather, we see chaos, non-answers to questions, and Gish Gallup! We see claims with absolutely no evidence; things like, “She never worked at McDonalds, or she just turned black a few years ago.” How can any rational person confront such nonsense?

When asked who Christ’s biggest enemy on earth was, the theologian Bertrand Russell said Christians. Remember Cory Louandousky (Trump’s first campaign manager)? Under oath in a congressional hearing, he once said, “It’s not illegal to lie to the press.” A senator asked him if he believed in Santa Claus and Louandousky’s response was something like, “My kids are watching. Thanks for ruining it for them.” It’s not okay to lie to your children about Santa Claus! If you lie to your children about Santa Claus don’t be surprised if they decide they can’t trust your Christian testimony.

The arguments for Trump are typically emotional and illogical arguments. They are things like hundreds of thousands of people are coming here from mental institutions in other countries and it’s costing us a fortune. It’s the typical verbal vomit that you can hear from Alex Jones. Where’s the proof?

Democracy demands an educated electorate and a civil society; it requires discipline and mutual respect. Do we see that modeled by those who support the Republican candidate? Do most Republicans believe in democracy? No, most of them fear the tyranny of the majority and they therefore prefer a republic—that means representatives selected to rule (white men unfettered by law). It means let white evangelicals like Roy Moore, Brett Cavanaugh, Doug Wilson, John Piper, Mark Driscoll, James Dobson, Doug Phillips, and John Eldridge make a so called Christian nation for us all. You don’t get hamburger meat from a pig and just because Christian nationalism has the word Christian doesn’t mean that it represents Christianity.

How many so called Christians stand up against Mark Robinson or Clarance Thomas? How many of them were horrified by Bill Clinton yet today support Donald Trump? In the end, it’s about politics and power rather than faith. Family values, really; not for governor Chris Sununu who now says character doesn’t matter. Family values, really, yet it’s okay that your candidate separates mothers from their children at the border, has been married three times, and has been accused of rape by more than 20 women.

Your platform says that you want to preserve the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. Congratulations, I agree! Then why is your candidate selling and aggressively promoting cryptocurrency?

You say you believe in the rule of law. Really! You’re going to elect someone with 35 felonies and set a precedent that presidents of the United States do not need to have clean criminal records?
No one was hurt on January 6, 2021; really, tell that to the 140 police men who were injured and the 5 who died as a direct or indirect result.

You say the Covid vaccine was a Trump accomplishment. really? He is not a scientist and he did everything he could to discourage people from getting the vaccine. By the way, I have a case of ivermectin I would love to sell you.

You say he’s a great businessman. Really? Six bankruptcies! Paying contractors pennies on the dollar for work performed. A phony charity specifically used to subvert tax laws! A fake university just set up to separate ambitious people from their money! And while I’m at it, take a look at Trump media and technology. Is that the kind of momentum you’d like to see for America?

You say you want transparency. Great! Where are Donald Trump’s tax returns and much more significantly, where is his full health record? A 78 year old portly man with clear signs of dementia and a completely unqualified Vice President.

But I am the enemy from within because I oppose Donald Trump. And I know from hard painful experience that the vast majority of churches in the faith I claim are now apostate. Want evidence, open that Trump Bible that contains the US founding documents and look at the very end, Revelation 22, versus 18 and 19. Is it still okay with you that your candidate sells a bible with the founding documents? And if you think your gun is evidence of your great faith, may I suggest that you ponder Luke 22: 50-51.

Trust (not agreement) is at the very heart of real relationships. This election shouldn’t be a referendum on who you agree with; rather it should be a referendum on who you trust.

If DumbOld Trump is Elected in November There Will Be Mourning in America 

If someone tells you they are voting for Trump because he is like Ronald Reagan, they are demonstrating a profound lack of knowledge about who Reagan really was, and what Reagan really stood for. Reagan signed a bill in California limiting the public carrying of guns, he signed a bill prohibiting California municipalities from punishing doctors for performing an abortion. Having been the president of the Screen Actors Union, he was certainly not anti-union.

Reagan was a practical conservative who’s rhetoric is often over simplified. There is absolutely no doubt  that Ronald Reagan would not vote for DumbOld. Want evidence? Read Chris Christie’s book, What Would Reagan Do: Life Lessons from the Last Great President

Reagan was a practical, flexible politician who could bend on minor issues while staying true to a larger objective. At bottom, he was for compassion but against big government. He wanted to slow down the nation’s momentum towards big government, but that didn’t mean he was opposed to using the tools of the federal government to create a gentler, fairer, more compassionate society.

Don’t like Obamacare? Reagan is its father because as president Reagan signed the anti-patient dumping act. In simple language, that bill forced hospitals to serve emergency patients who could not show evidence of insurance. Put simply, the bill said if a doctor or hospital accepted Medicare or Medicaid patients but refused to take an uninsured patient, the government could refuse to give them Medicare and Medicaid business. In other words, “If you won’t treat these uninsured people, we will take away a huge share of your business.” Just think about that. Medicine is a business. Like all businesses, it cannot afford to serve customers who do not pay yet Reagan forced (you might even say bribed) these businesses to accept non-paying customers. Humane? Yes! Good business? No! Ultimate result, national healthcare called Obamacare.

Before becoming president, Reagan met with Mexico’s president hoping to find ways to resolve the boarder challenge. Do you really think the man who told Mr.Gorbachev to ”Tear down this wall” would support building a wall on our southern boarder? Of course not!

Reagan provided Amnesty 2000s of illegal aliens. Ultimately, he provided them with a path to citizenship. He insisted that they obey our laws, earn their keep, and learn our language, but he did not appreciate the tendency of employers to mistreat them because of their illegal status. He resolved the problem that existed in the late 1980s, but ultimately he didn’t solve it. I am confident he would not want to see this population scapegoated. It would be fascinating for a media outlet to investigate Trump resorts; my guess is you would find thousands and thousands of undocumented aliens working illegally on his properties. Reagan would never approve!

Reagan would want a president who could stand up to Vladimir Putin; that’s not Trump, we saw that for sure in his debate with Kamala Harris. Talk about undisciplined, impulsive, emotional, and dangerous! Can you imagine Reagan agreeing with the notion that we should give up on Ukraine just to have peace with the Russians. If you can, you didn’t really know Reagan!

Undoubtedly, Reagan wouldn’t have agreed with Harris on the size of the federal government, but he would have been horrified by Trump’s flirtation with autocrats and dictators. He certainly would have been practical enough to say no to DumbOld while arguing the smaller issues. He never would have said, “I don’t always agree with Donald Trump” as Nikki Haley did (link to banana’s republicans) rather he would have said you must be able to trust your president even when you disagree with her. And speaking of her, remember, Reagan appointed the first woman to the Supreme Court and even though he and his wife were a very traditional couple, I have no doubt that he would have celebrated the first woman president as another example of American exceptionalism.

As a conservative pragmatist, Reagan would have recognized that our option as voters in 2024 is binary. In other words, you may have to accept things you do not like in service of a larger objective. He was great at compromise and would have understood the 2024 election as a choice; I’m confident he would have compromised his conservative values and voted for the better woman.

On September 14th, 1986, Ronald and Nancy Reagan gave an iconic talk to the nation. The subject was drugs. The famous line from that talk was, “Just say no to drugs.” Well, when you think about it, Trump’s rhetoric is a drug. It’s energizing because it focuses on grievance, hatred, anger, cynicism, and a blatant disregard for the organizing principles of society. When something goes wrong, it’s always someone else’s fault.  When the bill comes, always avoid your responsibility. Never admit you’re wrong, never apologize, and never back down. If you don’t want mourning in America on November 8, 2024, don’t take the drug; just say no to DumbOld Trump!

Nikki Haley has surrendered to the bananas Republican cult.

As a former Republican, I was insulted by Nikki Haley’s presentation at the Republican convention. Specifically, when she said I don’t always agree with Donald Trump she missed the point entirely.

That’s leadership! Has nothing to do with policies; has to do with courage and conviction. Haley completely failed the John McCain leadership test.

DumbOld is neither trustworthy nor competent. The former UN ambassador knows that; why did Nikki Haley completely surrender? Political expediency? That’s what’s wrong with the Republican party; they support the bananas Republican! And in the case of Haley, she has now become one of the bananas Republicans.

If Haley hopes for any form of redemption, she should start forming a new party. The Republican brand is dead!

Some cynically say both parties are cults. No! Joe Biden chose to step down; his party did not force him. His patriotism exceeded his partisanship.

When Ronald Reagan was shot, he looked at his surgeons before the surgery that was needed to remove the bullet and said, “I hope you boys are all Republicans.”  It was a funny line, but he didn’t mean it literally. The only thing that mattered at that moment was medical competence.

Reagan was good at using the bully pulpit wisely because he was a decent, honorable person at heart.   Whats’s his name used the bully pulpit to—well just to be a bully. Reagan understood acting, but he also understood governing. He didn’t want income tax and the safety social net to facilitate wealth transfer because he was personally empathetic and wanted to give American’s the opportunity to extend a hand up rather than have the government give a hand out. Social Security, Medicare, and Obamacare are all big government programs supported by tax revenue. They might be referred to as wealth transfer programs. We certainly need an intelligent, sensitive, informed dialogue about how much wealth transfer we really believe in as a nation, but the bananas Republicans have completely failed to engage in that dialogue.

The only form of governing that DumbOld seems to understand is trample-down; trample-down veterans, trample-down workers, and most significantly, trample-down economics.

If you support DumbOld, just imagine for a moment that you contracted for him on one of his building projects. Now suppose you try to get paid. He has his goon lawyer chisel and negotiate you down to $.20 on the dollar. Now imagine you are paying your income tax. You are unhappy that your obligation is so high. Think of it though, you have no idea what DumbOld paid because he has gone out of his way to hide his returns. If he paid his share, why is he so eager to keep it private? And how much more tax will you have to pay on his behalf and the behalf of others he stimulates to cheat and chisel on their returns? If you don’t believe in America, say that; but don’t pretend you’re patriotic while welching on your common tax or military, or other civic obligation.

Do you support DumbOld because you believe life begins at conception? Or because you think he will reduce government spending? Think again. If life begins at conception, how many more fetuses will be murdered because of Trump’s proposal for the government to pay for IVF for women having trouble conceiving? It will only magnify the problem of destroying fertilized eggs. And with no funding source, how much will government funded IVF cost you as a taxpayer? Think it can’t happen? You probably thought Roe would never be overturned.

I will be voting for Kamala Harris in the fall not because I agree with Harris on everything, but because I trust her and because she is competent.

Five of the eighteen presidents in the last century had to be replaced by their vice president. In other words, approximately 30 percent of the presidents in the last century died in office. Fortunately for us, all five of their vice presidents were well prepared. What in heavens name is the evidence that the childless cat lady guy potentially belongs on that list? A 40 year old weird venture capitalist with less than two years of experience in the federal government—don’t we deserve better—especially because DumbOld what’s his name is the oldest man ever to flounder for president. Actuarially speaking, he is already several years beyond life expectancy for an obese white man living in America.

We can’t talk about solid conservative ideas because DumbOld picks the best people. Right! It would be hysterical if it wasn’t such a serious matter. We are talking about potentially the most powerful person in the world. And Republicans think that a weird cat lady guy could do that job? No wonder I’m no longer a Republican! He makes up unsourced stories about eating pets, he threatens the sitting Vice President because two former Trump supporters tried to assassinate their one time hero. I have yet to hear how Vance would reduce the federal debt, improve public education, protect average citizens like me from crazies with guns, or protect the environment we pass forward to our children and grandchildren. As for the Vance view of America’s place in the world—we know he doesn’t think we should be helping Ukraine. Presumably, he shares DumbOld’s view of NATO; America should go it alone in the world—crazy! This guy is too diluted, weird, and immature to have access to America’s nuclear codes!
We do know that Vance can’t answer a straight question without arguing; we do know that Vance promotes crazy theories about consuming pets with no evidence; and we know Vance will never stand up to DumbOld like Mike Pence did.

Does anyone really think JD Vance belongs on a team with Teddy Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, or Gerald Ford? I sure don’t. Teddy Roosevelt; a man’s man, one of the great reformers of the last century; someone who stood against monopolies and understood the plight of the common man. Calvin Coolidge; the only modern Republican who truly demonstrated through his actions a belief in smaller or less government! Gerald Ford; one of the most decent human beings ever to sit in the oval office. Come on, the weird cat lady guy does not belong on this list! Tell that to Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F Kennedy. Both of their vice presidents did more for the black population of this country than DumbOld could ever imagine. Harry Truman integrated the military. That took incredible courage. Lyndon Johnson passed the voting rights act among other things. What would Vance do? Repeal the 19th amendment or go to war with childless couples?

Do you know why none of this has to do with policy? Because Trump Vance are so focused on personal insults and so incredibly lacking in government experience that they can’t articulate conservative policies. Just calling someone a San Francisco liberal doesn’t mean anything; by the way, I’d love to hear JD Vance define liberal, NATO, progressive income tax, income inequality, and fascist.

Tim Walz would be a great vice president if that’s all he ever is, but should it be necessary for him to become president there is no question that he is exceedingly more qualified to act as president than JD Vance would be on day one.

We have tried to focus on today and tomorrow but when the past screams out as it does this morning — things have to be said.

Undoubtedly, you have felt a chill in our relationship over the last month since we spent that Wednesday evening with Jeffery’s parents. I know you love Jeffery, but guns trump love. It was kind of them to invite us to watch the convention and in spite of what I am about to say I hope you recognize that kindness and civility are critical, but there is no substitute for strength, courage, resolve, and clear thinking.

Perhaps they didn’t know that your mother was shot by your father when you were only six weeks old; had they known that perhaps they wouldn’t have laughed and shouted their agreement when JD Vance spoke about the 19 unsecured hand guns in Granny’s home. (link to that part of the vance speech) When Jeffery’s mother took out her Trump bible and made a note of the date of the speech next to the second amendment printed in that volume I almost got up and walked out but I chose to let it breathe. It’s been a month; now it’s time for me to speak.

There is nothing I want more for you than happiness with a good partner. I don’t think it’s funny when dads I know talk about shooting young men that court their daughters. This isn’t to say guns are always bad but a gun fetish, an obsession with shooting people when you disagree or dislike them is not something I want in our family. I don’t want to live in that dark world. That’s the world where people like George Zimmerman and stand your ground laws are driven by racism and misogyny! That’s the world of controlling girls not guns. That’s the world of fire and mock the secret service director rather than facing the problem of more guns than people in our country. If that’s what they mean by “Make America Great Again” I’ll take the America we have today. What happened to the Republican party that said a chicken in every pot; now it’s a gun in every classroom. NO THANKS!

You are so very young and attractive. If you and Jeffery can’t work this out there will be others, I am sure — but even if I’m wrong, better to be a childless cat lady than to be yoked in a relationship with a dangerous power imbalance.

Aa you doubtless remember, from the time you went out to play with kids on your own, I told you you could always say, “My dad said no” without asking me. I’d back you up; I understand the pull of a crowd and the dissonance of knowing something is wrong but wanting to follow your friends.
